COURSES AND TRAINING

A key feature of ABTO’s Mission is ‘Developing training schemes and educational seminars to facilitate advancement and best practice’.

European Biocarbon Summit 2024

ABTO SUPPORTED EVENT

Biocarbon 24.png

As heavy industry and transportation step up their decarbonisation efforts, biomass and BECCS (bioenergy with carbon capture and storage) solutions are gaining traction. Hawkins Wright’s conference will delve into the commercial realities of using lignocellulosic biomass including wood chips and pellets, agricultural biomass, biocarbon and biocoal.
Heavy industry and transportation stakeholders will meet bioenergy representatives in a unique networking event aimed at advancing the decarbonisation of these sectors.
The format will consist of presentations and panel discussions. The programme  will include a tour of Tata Steel’s IJmuiden plant.

Port and Terminal Operations for Bulk Cargoes

ONLINE SHORT COURSE

PTOBC-2025-banner_DTBA (002).jpg

This popular and well received course will be held again in collaboration with The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology, when the demand justifies it.
Delegates will gain an understanding of the reasons for the varied behaviour of, and how to handle, bulk particulate materials as they travel across the seas or are stored and transported to and from port terminals.

Understanding the Total Cost of Ownership

ONLINE SHORT COURSE

UTCO-2023-banner (002).jpg

This course will be held in collaboration with The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology and the Solids Handling & Processing Association (SHAPA), when the demand justifies it.

All too often the operational requirements of the equipment to be supplied to bulk terminals is not properly understood by either the buyers or the sellers. Purchase decisions purely based on price or a lack of knowledge of the characteristics of the material to be handled – or frequently both – will fail to understand the true cost of a bulk solids handling system to a business in terms of down-time; energy; maintenance and manning.

The OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE is to raise awareness amongst bulk terminal buyers of the need to behave in a better-informed way and equipment suppliers to understand the operational needs of the equipment they are supplying.

The course will be delivered through EXPERT PRESENTATIONS, CASE STUDIES and GROUP WORKING facilitated by The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology and the Solids Handling & Processing Association (SHAPA).

Other Short Courses Offered by The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology

Particularly those courses dealing with the storage and discharge or the pneumatic conveying of bulk solids will be of interest to many in the bulk terminals’ community.

Bulk Materials Handling and Processing in the Net Zero Economy – 4 December 2024

The course will look at bulk materials handling as part of the solution to net zero, discussing trends and opportunities. Delegates will be invited to share their current methods in use and discuss how the industry can become more aware and active in reducing carbon emissions, using techniques and processes already in operation around the industry.
The process of handling bulk solids generates carbon emissions, but it is also a fundamental enabling technology in processes that can reduce carbon emissions through energy from renewable biomass, energy from waste and recycling and green chemical feedstocks.
